WASHINGTON — The Washington Mystics trailed after three quarters before closing on a 20-11 fourth-quarter run to beat the Seattle Storm 84-79 on Sunday at CareFirst Arena, taking the rubber match of their three-game season series.

Shakira Austin led all Washington scorers with 27 points on 10-of-18 shooting, and Sonia Citron added 19. Kiki Iriafen came off the bench for a double-double, finishing with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Natisha Hiedeman paced Seattle with 31 points, but the Storm shot just 26 percent from three-point range as a team and couldn’t hold off Washington’s fourth-quarter push after leading 24-18 out of the first.

The win closed out the season series with Seattle 2-1 — Washington dropped the opener in May before winning the final two meetings. The Mystics improve to 11-10 overall and 5-5 in the Eastern Conference, good for fourth place, a game and a half behind first-place Indiana.

Washington is back at CareFirst Arena on July 16 against the Portland Fire.
