WASHINGTON — Taylor Fritz, Jessica Pegula and Alexandra Eala each punched their tickets to Sunday’s finals at the Mubadala Citi DC Open, setting up an all-American men’s final and a first-time showdown on the women’s side at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center.
Fritz, the No. 3 seed, survived an all-American semifinal against fellow Southern Californian Brandon Nakashima, rallying from a set down to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 in a match that stretched into Saturday evening. It’s Fritz’s second straight trip to the Washington final; he’ll face Spanish teenager Rafael Jodar, who beat Alejandro Tabilo in three sets on the other side of the men’s draw.
On the women’s side, top-seeded Jessica Pegula rallied from a 5-2 deficit in the first set to beat No. 4 seed Diana Shnaider 7-5, 6-4, punching her fourth final ticket of the season. She’ll face Alexandra Eala, who became the first Filipino player to reach a WTA 500 singles final by upsetting former major champion Naomi Osaka, 6-4, 6-2.
Sunday’s finals were moved up on the schedule — the women’s final at noon and the men’s final at 2:30 p.m. — due to the threat of inclement weather.
Pegula holds a 1-0 career head-to-head edge over Eala, with their only previous meeting coming in Miami earlier this season. Both finals close out the 2026 Mubadala Citi DC Open on Sunday at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center.
