5 Things We're Watching

  1. The New-Look Offense The Commanders’ offense will feature several new faces, including rookie QB Jayden Daniels, who is expected to get one to two drives. Key additions like Austin Ekeler at running back, Zach Ertz at tight end, and an overhauled offensive line will also be a focus for us this week. Terry McLaurin remains the top target and his connection with Daniels will be pivotal if Washington is to be successful on offense.

  2. Linebackers The addition of veteran linebackers Bobby Wagner and Frankie Luvuu has bolstered this Commanders’ unit. Wagner's direction and Luvuu's athleticism will be crucial to the Commanders' defensive success this season and could help with the growth of Jamin Davis's game.

  3. Cornerback Play All eyes will be on how the cornerbacks hold up against the Jets' passing attack. Benjamin St-Juste and Mike Davis are out to prove they are more than capable starters in the league and there is a ton of excitement for Mike Sainristil out of Michigan.

  4. Defensive Line Pressure The Commanders’ defensive line, featuring stalwarts like Jonathan Allen and Daron Payne as well as the new additions of Clelin Ferrell and Dorrance Armstrong, is expected to bring the heat. Watch for the impact of rookie additions and rotational players in generating pressure on the Jets’ quarterbacks.

  5. Special Teams and New Kickoff Rules With the NFL’s new kickoff rules in effect, it will be interesting to see how both teams adapt. Additionally, the Commanders will be assessing their punt return options, with players like Jamison Crowder and Jahan Dotson in the mix.
