ASHBURN, VA — The Washington Commanders opened their mandatory 2026 minicamp Tuesday, June 16, at the Big Bear AI Performance Center with an emphasis on depth and competition as the offseason program heads into its final stretch.

Head coach Dan Quinn made it clear before practice that the three days would be used to evaluate the entire roster, giving extra reps to players who saw fewer opportunities during OTAs. “Some of the guys who’ve got the most reps will get some of the least in this camp,” Quinn said. “Some of the ones who’ve had some of the least will actually get the most. The purpose behind that is to test where we’re at — the whole depth, top to bottom.”
Quarterback Jayden Daniels continued to show strong pre-snap recognition and command of the new offensive system under coordinator David Blough. Veteran left tackle Laremy Tunsil anchored the offensive line and was seen working closely with second-year tackle Josh Conerly Jr. after practice.

Wide receiver Van Jefferson drew specific praise from Quinn for his route running and ability to get open. Rookie linebacker Sonny Styles also impressed, looking in control in the defensive back seven with strong communication and play recognition.
The session included competitive team periods, special teams work, and situational drills. Tight end Ben Sinnott stood out with multiple strong catches, including one down the sideline. The team maintained high tempo throughout the first day as they ramp up evaluations ahead of training camp in late July.
